Located on Sand Key, the beach at Sand Key Park was opened to the public in August
1984. Sand Key Beach is separated from the popular Clearwater Beach by the Clearwater
Pass and occupies 95 acres of the northern end of Sand Key.
 The park offers two picnic shelters, a playground, restroom facilities and a dog park. Grills, picnic tables and water fountains are also available. The beach area includes cabana rentals, outdoor shower towers to rinse off sand, and two bath houses. A lifeguard is on duty from March to September daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nine boardwalks lead to the beach area, where the stunning beach sunsets are a popular setting for weddings year round.
Sand Key Park also includes a salt marsh with viewing benches for watching the wide variety of unusual birds that nest and feed in the area. The beach area annually is host to a variety of nesting sea turtles, including the rare Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle. These nests are watched over by the nearby Clearwater Aquarium.
